Context:
Our Client is a major subcontractor to to the defence and space sector. The specific division concerned was a sub contractor to Boeing, producing torsion bars, Boeing 737 tail sections and Cargo system conversion kits for Boeing 747s. Boeing were implementing their DCAC system and the pressure was on to improve their supplier performance ratings.
Tecknic’s role:
- Project management, planning and communication
- Lean process improvement in associated service transactions
- Evaluate and improve highly regulated MRB process
- Manage all stakeholder relationships
- Current state value stream map development
- Future state value stream map development with stakeholder engagement
- Risk management
Objectives and scope:
- A full review of our existing Cargo systems processes with clear and specific improvement recommendations
- Process flow maps which reflect the changes to be implemented within the company to enhance operational efficiency
- A value stream map reflecting how information will be input and flow
- Physical redesign of key productions cells
- Tools to monitor KPIs arising from the Lean Process so that continual improvement can be driven after the conclusion of the project
Achievements:
- Lean production cell piloted and implemented, resulting in 38% efficiency improvement
- Reduced non-conformance backlog in MRB engineering from three weeks to a one-day turn-around
- Training & Development programme for staff
- First Boeing supplier of 660 approved for DCAC in North America.
- Total annualised savings of over $2,000,000
